That is the Sagayo family old house in Sagada, Mountain Province. I took the photo in January 2007.

I got to enter that house in 1997 during a family New Year's party. It had a very ancient ambience -- the walls (probably made of pinewood) were very dark because of the smoke from the earthen stove within the house. This also made the house warm and very cozy.

More than anything else, there was so much warmth among the family members and the people attending the occasion.

The memory of that night amidst Sagada's freezing weather made one of my warmest New Year's eves ever.

This is my favorite photo because of its simplicity.
Moreover, I like the windows that look like eyes. The house has a distinct face.

Fantastic pics :) I've always wanted to go to Sagada... Hopefully I can go there by this year :)

Sagada is a must-see, esp. if you are from the Cordillera.

The scary is a fact of life among mountain dwellers, a state of things that is compensated by that "certain high" of living in "high" places I guess.

Hiya, Chit! I love this picture. I look forward to visiting Sagada next time I'm back home.

Hi Gladys and Pancho! Baguio misses your LEGATO Books and Music Shop. Hope you could retire here.

Great pictures ! May video documentary ba or podcasts on these indigenouous architecture, the rice terraces, the red house in Sagada, and maybe some folktales or stories as told to this oldest woman in town by her parents and grandparents ? If you make one, please let me know. Masarap kasing pakinggan ang mga taong nag ku kwento eh, lalo na siguro iyong mga kwento ni lola, the oldest woman in town.

Jo, I haven't heard of any docus about those things. Maybe, it's about time "those in the know" should be doing it now -- before the oldies go away.

Dios ti ag-ngina everyone.

I took this shot by the roadside on the way to Bangaan, Sagada. It overlooks Sitio Tanolong and the hills hiding the Big Falls from my view.

The Tanolong Rice Terraces is not very popular, Madam. But there are many other such spots in Sagada alone. Sagada remains a mantra to many travelers around the world. Its beauty is incomparable.

I love the way you see it. Looking at it as if it were "stained glass" brings me to poetic heights. Such sensibility. Thanks.

I still remember Sagada´s " SLEEPING CLOUDS" each time I open my Window before the sun rise at Julia´s Place many years ago...the place is Mystical!

Another poet in you Williefaylona.

So, you call the low-flying clouds during the wee hours of dawn that way... "Sleeping Clouds." Yes, such type of clouds are uplifiting to see upon waking up to them in the morning up in the mountains.

Sometimes due to their sheer size over a valley or village, I liken them to sleeping crocodiles -- hence, I love to call them "Crocodile Clouds."

Yup. You pass by Tanulong before you reach Pidlisan.

Great picture Chi :-)

Six hours at the most, but there are now aircon buses (2 trips a day, Cable Bus Line w/ terminal near St Luke's in Quezon City) that go directly from Manila to Bontoc. The Halsema route though is more scenic than the Nueva Ecija-Viscaya road.

That's sad. Heritage Conservation, it seems, has not yet made any dent in the consciousness of the Cordillerans. I wonder how this vintage edifice would look like after the retouching.

Chi gets her supply from her best friend's neighbor in Bangaan.
Rev. Moreno Tuguinay and his wife Julie are her usual hosts. It's done with a lot more love in that lovely barrio than anywhere else.

But commercializing it quantity-wise would probably kick it down. Miss the Frenchman's bread, too. Akia?
