VINTAGE ARCHITECTURE

Had the long-overdue Baguio Heritage Zone been approved, conservation efforts would probably be held in better check.

In countries where conservation ordinance is in place, guidelines for Registered Historic Houses and Historic Preservation enclaves require that any modification gets a fair hearing in the Department of Land Use.

I think the "A" stands for Arevalo; the classic green and white is typical of early baguio american architecture.

Haven't done complete research on this one, but the house is at the corner of Gaerlan and Sepic Roads.

I've heard that the Arevalos are the descendants of the late Benguet Governor Gaerlan whose official house used to seat at the current location of the Baguio City High School.

We are no longer in the habit of monitoring the goings-on at the City Council. I think none of the Councilors are interested in aesthetics and heritage concerns.

But the usual SOP for an ordinance to get passed -- as alleged by business people who have experienced this -- is still the usual route: give grease.

---more focused on building new structures instead (e.g. parking building ni pinky rondez sa burnham park and the domogan/vergara bgh overpass).

This looks more like mansion or villa category. Where is Gaerlan and Sepic Rd near to?

Sepic Rd., now called the Roman Ayson Road, is next to Bokawkan if you are trudging through Naguilian. At the end of Sepic Rd. is the Gaerlan St. which goes straight to Ferguson Road in Guisad.

This is the "Shapno Compound." An aggregate of about three houses, two structures bordering Fergusson on the west and one on the east which is the house you featured on Sepic and Brower Rd. The Gaerlan's house is located midway Brower road just north of the Sembrano Compound. The Gaerlan's architecture style is of the same line as the Shapno and Sembrano houses.
