BUILDINGS w/ HISTORY

Baguio City's oldest hotel -- the Casa Vallejo which was built in 1908-1909 -- was originally the "Dormitory 4" of the Old Government Center until 1923.

It was spared from demolition and the gaze of big business such as the Robinson's mall, but it continues to be idle, rotting away.

A few years ago during the last Tourism Summit, a lady politician heading the Tourism Committee promised to do something about this sleeping giant.

Yup, viewed from Barrio Fiesta restaurant. Front view of hotel is depressing. It's been idle under layers of dust for almost 10 years now.

You mean as in unoccupied? Sayang, prime spot pa naman, just below SM, right?

The lot of the Casa Vallejo, I think, belongs to the DENR-CAR, while some of the buildings belong to the Ongpin family who are the descendants of Don Vallejo, a Spaniard.

The basement is occupied by the Namria, a mapping agency. Concerned citizens have proposed that it be turned into Baguio's Photographic Museum in time for the Centennial in 2009, but you know naman the polticians' priority these days --- cars and their selfish interest.

Is there a road between the hotel and your vantage point behind the bushes?

No road.

Just a rangkis or cliff that has been landscaped by the Barrio Feista groups as the famous "Igorot Steps." Up the landscaped rangkis is the Upper Session Road and opposite that is the mall giant, SM.

Vergs,
It is just a stairway that connects Session Road and Leonard Wood Rd (above Jungletown). Kitang kita ito from my father's house in Engineer's Hill. I will post some pictures in my site.

Vergs,
I just posted some pictures in my site. In picture 008, Vallejo is behind those trees on the right. The stairway is between the Barrio Fiesta and those trees.

We should invite a few more investors to Baguio, or at least, the few rich people should believe more in Baguio and its future. (Or, dito na lang ilagay yung makukulit na negosyanteng Koreans.)
